Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential.

Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that experiential learning in this type of classroom led to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions and much more. Most Montessori classrooms are secular in nature, although the Montessori educational method can be integrated successfully into a faith-based program.

Every material in a Montessori classroom supports an aspect of child development, creating a match between the child’s natural interests and the available activities. Children can learn through their own experience and at their own pace. They can respond at any moment to the natural curiosities that exist in all humans and build a solid foundation for life-long learning.

Preschool

Our full time school day runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. If you need to pick up your child prior to the end of the school day, please contact your child’s teacher or call the school. The teachers plan for a full day of curriculum; your child must be here no later than 8:30

  • Full day school: 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Full day extended school: 7:30am-5:30pm

Summer program

MVM offers a full time summer program! The lead teachers do not run the summer program; it operates much like a “Daycare Day” with additional lesson planning, structure, and activities offered from 7:30am – 5:30pm.

  • Program is limited to 40 full time children.
  • Lead teachers do not work in the summer months.
  • Montessori lessons are not completed.
  • Teacher Assistants plan the day of activities and field trips.
  • Students work in small groups throughout the day.
  • An extra charge of $25 will be billed to each student’s account monthly to cover the cost of daily snacks.
  • Lunches must be brought from home.

Our experience at MVM has been absolutely amazing. The love all the teachers have for their students is like that of a close family member. I have been a stay at home mom until my son was 4 and wanted to give him a school experience before kindergarten and MVM exceeded all expectations I had. The growth I have seen in my children academically, socially, and emotionally while at MVM has been amazing. Once graduating from MVM my children flourished in Kindergarten, their preschool experience played a major role in that.

My daughter had Ms. Lacey her first year of preschool. Ms. Lacey not only helped my daughter flourish, but helped my daughter become the best version of herself. My daughter proceeded to have Ms. Kara her second year and began to read books by herself as well as do addition and subtraction. The staff takes a great teaching approach and encourages students to flourish independently. She has succeeded in many aspects, and I truly believe it started when she began school at Missouri Valley Montessori.
